Four Weeks With Trekking

Yangon - Bago - Kyaikhtiyo - Mawlamyine - Hpa.An - Yangon - Bagan - Mt.Popa - Mandalay - Amarapura - Sagaing - Mingun - Pyin On Lwin - Mandalay - Kalaw - Inle Lake - Sagar - Heho - Kyaing Tong - Hokyin Villages - Pin Tauk - Kyaing Tong - Yangon

Day 1Yangon/arrival

In the morning arrive at Yangon International Airport. Meet with your guide and transfer to hotel for check-in. Then in the afternoon visit Yangon sightseeing including Chaukhtatkyi Pagoda, downtown area, Botahtaung pagoda and the most famous Shwedagon Pagoda. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 2Yangon

In the morning sightseeing start from local market where you can see the varieties of local products such as fish, vegetables, foods. Then drive to Yangon Station to take the city circle train (about 2 hours) to see the daily life of local people. Lunch and afternoon visit famous Aung San market where you can find the very modern things and different kinds of souvinier.Evening visit Kandawgyi lake and park, Yangon jetty. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 3Yangon-Bago-Kyaikhtiyo

After breakfast drive to Kyaikhtiyo (appro: 4 hours). On the way visit Bago, an ancient capital of Mon Kingdom in 15th century. Visit Shwe-tha-lyaung reclining Buddha(55 meters long), Shwe maw daw Pagoda, Hinthagone pagoda, 28 metre high huge Buddha image of Kyaikpun pagoda. Then drive to Kyaikhtiyo. Afternoon arrive the Kimpun base camp and take the open truck to go up till Hermit Hill. From Hermit Hill we have to walk up about 1 hour to reach the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda. Kyaikhtiyo, mystical pagoda stands on a gold gilded boulder, precariously perched on the edge of the hill over 1100 km above sea –level. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 4Kyaikhtiyo-Mawlamyine

After breakfast take the truck to base camp. From base camp drive to Mawlamyine(3 hours). Mawlamyine is the third largest city in Myanmar after Yangon and Mandalay situated 165 kilometers east of the nation's capital across the Gulf of Mottama at the mouth of the Thanlwin river. It is the capital of Mon State with a population of almost 300,000 people. Formerly known as Moulmein, it was once a thriving teak port and the administrative capital of British Lower Burma. Afternoon arrive and check-in hotel. Evening visit Kyaikthanlan pagoda built in 875 AD and thought to be the site from where Rudyard Kipling wrote his famous poem, 'The Road to Mandalay'. Mahamuni pagoda and walking along the strand road.Overnight in Mawlamyine.

Day 5Mawlamyine

Full day of sightseeing in and around Mawlamyine, visit the local market and then continue to famous small town of Mudon (20km -1hour). On the way visit the largest reclining Buddha image in the world, Win Sein Taw Ya, is situated about 20 km south of Mawlamyine on the main road to Mudon. Stop at Kyaukdalone, a Buddhist stupa and a Hindu temple facing each other. and Seindon Mibaya Kyaung, where King Mindon's wife sought refuge. In the evening take a small boat to cross the other side of river and visit Gaung Se island literally means 'head medicine' or shampoo in Myanmar language and 'kyun' means island thus giving rise to its English name of Shampoo Island. It has been given this name from the Ava period when water from a spring on this island was used in the annual royal hair washing ceremony. The island also has a Buddhist meditation centre. Overnight in Mawlamyine.

Day 6Mawlamyine- Hpa an

In the morning after breakfast drive to Hpa-an, the capital city of Kayin State. On the way to Hpa-an visit Kha Yon and Kawkung caves where you can see the full of Buddha images. Arrive Hpa-an and Lunch. Afternoon visit the iconic sights of Mt Zwe Kabin, whose foothills are lined with thousands of identical Buddha statues and the 'Cave of Ten Thousand Buddhas', Kyaukkalat, market and enjoy sunset from Shwe Saryan pagoda just beside the river. Overnight in Hpa-an.

Day 7Hpa An-Yangon

Morning drive to Thaton, on the way visit Bayin Nyi cave and then drive to Thaton, former capital of the Mon Kingdom. Afternoon arrive back Yangon and check-in hotel. Evening relax and overnight in Yangon.

Day 8Yangon-Bagan

In the morning transfer to Yangon airport to take the flight to Bagan(appro:1:15 hours). On arrival transfer to hotel and check-in. And then start Bagan sightseeing included Nyaung.U market, Shwezigon pagoda, Gubyaukkyi temple, Htilominlo temple, Shwegugyi temple, Ananda temple. Lunch. In the afternoon visit the famous lacquer ware workshop. Then visit Manuha temple, Nanpapaya, Gubyaukkyi temple. Enjoy sunset from the top of famous Shwe San Taw pagoda. Overnight in Bagan.

Day 9Bagan

In the morning visit one local village to see daily life of people, living style and culture. Then visit Lay Myet Hnar temple, Paya Thonesu pagodas. Lunch and relax in the afternoon and evening take a boat in Ayeyarwaddy river to enjoy sunset. Overnight in Bagan.

Day 10Bagan-Popa-Bagan

After break drive to Mt.Popa (about 1:15 hours). Mt.Popa is an extinct vocalno and also known as the home of 37 Myanmar Nats. Mt.Popa area is like the oasic in the dry region of Myanmar. On arrival of Mt.Popa we visit the shrine of 37 Nats. Then have to go up over 700 steps to reach the top of table-mountain. On the way back to Bagan, we can visit the farms beside the rode to see how to produce the brown sugar from palm juice, penut oil, seasam. Overnight in Bagan.

Day 11Bagan-Mandalay (car/boat)

In the morning drive to Mandalay (appr:5 hours) (if by boat: 10 hours). Arrive Mandalay evening and transfer to hotel. Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 12Mandalay-Amarapura-Sagaing-Mandalay

After breakfast drive to Amarapura and visit famous U Pein bridge, Mahagandaryon Monastery, famous silk weaving factory. Then drive to Sagaing (about 25minutes), one ancient capital site before Mandalay in 13th century. There are hundreds of meditation centers, monasteries and nunaries around Sagaing hill. In Sagaing visit Umin Thonese Pagodas, Ponnyashin Pagpda at the top of Sagaing Hill. We can visit also the silver smith workshop. In the afternoon back to Mandalay and visit including Shwenandaw monastery,Kuthoday pagoda, Atumashi monastery,Mandalay Hill. Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 13Mandalay-Mingun-Mandalay

In the morning drive to jetty to take the boat trip to Mingun (appr:1 hour). On arrival Mingun, visit Mingun Pagoda, Mingun bell, the biggest ringing bell of the world, Myatheintan pagoda. Then take boat back to Mandalay. In the afternoon visit Mahamuni Buddha image, the most famous Buddha of Mandalay and people believe that Buddha image alive. Zaycho market. Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 14Mandalay-Pyinoolwin

After breakfast drive to Pyinoolwin (appro:1 ½ hours), was a nice small town and popular hill station during colonial time. Over 1000 meters above sea-level, well-known for its colonial-style houses with large compound and pine trees, eucalyptus and silver-oak abound in town. Visit Famous Botanical garden, Pwe Kauk waterfall, old Station, Pyinoolwin market. Check in hotel and overnight in Pyinoolwin.

Day 15Pyinoolwin-Naung Pain (train)-Pyinoolwin

After breakfast transfer to Pyinoolwin Station to take the train to Naung Pain. Enjoy the local train ride. When arrive Naung pain station, get off from the train and take the car to back Pyinoolwin. Overnight in Pyinoolwin.

Day 16Pyinoolwin-Mandalay

In the morning drive back to Mandalay and leisure. Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 17 Mandalay-Heho-Pindaya-Kalaw

After breakfast drive to Mandalay airport to take the flight to Heho. On arrival drive to Pindaya (appro:1 ½ hours). The landscape to Pindaya is very nice. Beside of the road, there are different colours of plantations like the gallery of Shan Hills. In Pindaya, visit famous pindaya cave which is famous for its over 8000 old buddha images inside. Lunch and drive to Kalaw (appro: 1 ½ hours), a typical small town in southern part ot Shan State. Kalaw was a hill station during colonial time and still exits lots of colonial houses and buildings around the town. On the way to Kalaw you can enjoy the different landscape from the dry region to the cold area of Shan State. In the evening arrive and Overnignt in Kalaw.

Day 18Kalaw-Inle trekking (overnight at village house or monastery)

Early morning start your 3 days trekking trip. The road and trail goes through beautiful scenery. On the way visit the villages of Palaung, Danu, Pao and Taung Yoe. Your local station tour guide Ko Paul will introduce you to the villagers and will show you the traditional ways of life. Lunch in Hinkhagone a Palaung village. The path goes up and down. Native along the way do the plantation for Tea leaves, Coffee, Cordial leaves, Mustard, Ginger, Malt Rice, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Sesame. Late afternoon you will arrive to Shabin a typical Danu village with 12th Century old wooden monastery. Dinner and overnight in the village.

Day 19Trekking (overnight at village house or monastery)

After your breakfast at the monastery continue your trekking trip. It is about 7 hours trekking. The people in this area grow fruits; Arvogado, Banana, Oranges, Jack fruits, Papaya. You will have the chance to see the crab apple trees along the way together with some shady Banyan trees. Lunch at Pawke a Pao village. After lunch you have to walk for another 3½ hours to Teetain a typical Pao village. Native along this way do the plantation especially for Ginger. Dinner and overnight in the village.

Day 20Arrive Inle

After breakfast continue the 5 hours trekking trip to the shore of the Inle lake. The trail goes through beautiful scenery of Bamboo forest. The natives of Pao, Taung Yoe and Intha along the way grow fruits; Banana, Papaya, Potato and Beans. Lunch at lower Thandaung village. In the afternoon transfer by boat to your hotel.

Day 21Inle

After breakfast visit in Inle lake including famous Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, floating gardens, Ywa Ma village where we can see some long necked tribe people from other region, paper umbrella making, Inn Paw Knone Village where can see the silk and cotton weaving. Famous Nga Phae Chaung monastery, one of the old monasteries around Inle Lake and now like museum of old Buddha alters. Overnight in Inle Lake.

Day 22Inle - Saga - Inle

After breakfast take boat trip to Sanga village (2 ½ hours). Around Sanga village you can visit the 12th century ancient pagodas and charming village. Afternoon back to hotel.

Day 23Inle - Heho - Kyaing Tong

In the morning transfer to Heho airport to take the flight to Kyaing Tong (appr:45 minutes). Kyaing Tong is the capital of Eastern Shan area and also the capital city of the Golden Triangle region. Upon arrival transfer to hotel. Then visit Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, housing Mandalay style Buddha image and near by a monastery where the monks learn "Khun" language, which is very similar to that used in the Northern Thailand. Proceed to the Shan lacquer ware making home industry to learn embossing method lacquer ware making. Evening visit around famous Naung Tong lake. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 24Trekking to Akha (Hokyin villages)

After breakfast, drive to Ho Kyin mountain to visit four Akah tribe villages (appr. 1½ hr drive). There are so many different groups of people living in the area around Kyaing Tong. Akha, Akhu, Lisu, Lahu, Shan, Wa and Eng are the larger groups and more easily to visit. Akha people still wearing traditional costumes with silver coils. If an Akhar woman wants to have her complete costume, it will take about more than one hour. Then walk to near by 3 villages of Akha tribes to see their daily life in those rural areas. Akha people are Buddhist, Christian, and also Animists. In the afternoon, come back to Kyaing Tong and overnight.

Day 25Kyaing Tong – Pin Tauk (Akha & Ann Tribe) – Kyaing Tong

After breakfast start hiking tour into the Pin Tauk area. Lush mixed monsoon forest with a view to the plain rice fields looking like a huge, green patchwork blanket shimmering in the water of the flooded paddy fields. Your local guide will introduce you to the villagers of Aka and An tribes. Some are baptized, some tribes still animists. Ann people, known to be the kindest tribe, as there is no case up to nowadays where an Ann member has ever been violent. It will take about 6 hours to visit the villages, including visits of the houses. Late afternoon come back to Kyaing Tong and overnight.

Day 26Kyaing Tong-Yangon

In the morning visit Kyaing Tong market offering a mixture of local products, handicraft wares of the tribal folk and merchandise from Thailand and China, Wat In Monastery, Lone tree hill to see the view of the town. Then transfer to Kyaing Tong airport for your flight back to Yangon.

Day 27Yangon/dep

In the morning transfer to Yangon airport to take the departure flight.
